The Manawatu-Wanganui Regional Council and the Greater Wellington Regional Council have both contributed money toward the Capital Connection rail service.

KiwiRail's scenic journeys manager Gavin Rutherford said it would be staggering the maintenance and repairs for individual train carriages during the next 12 months so the service can continue.

Mr Rutherford said KiwiRail planned to continue working hard to meet its customers' needs.
