The township was one of those badly hit by flooding a week ago.
Sharon Tipa said she answered a call yesterday afternoon from someone who asked for her bank account details.
She said the man introduced himself as officer Brad Cooper from Wellington, and told her that Prime Minister, John Key, was giving her $9100 because she paid her bills on time.
Ms Tipa said she knew it was a scam from the get-go, and anyone who got a similar call should end it straight away.
Meanwhile, the state of emergency declared a week ago in Taranaki after a rainstorm caused widespread flooding and forced the evacuation of dozens of homes was lifted at 9pm tonight.
