Ports of Auckland has confirmed it will not challenge the court decision forcing it to halt work on a controversial wharf extension.

The High Court has agreed with lobby group Urban Auckland that resource consents for the work had not been correctly processed and were invalid.
The company's board this afternoon decided the project would await the outcome of a council-driven study on the port's future needs, which is expected to take a year.
Its CEO, Tony Gibson, said there was still an immediate need to accommodate longer ships at its general cargo wharves.
Mr Gibson said it would talk to its customers and stakeholders to try to find possible short-term solutions in the meantime.
He said, over the coming months, he expected to be able to announce a number of initiatives to take the business further.
