Veteran activist Penny Bright has gained a brief reprieve from Auckland Council's efforts to make her pay rates.

The Auckland District Court has set aside a 2012 judgment favouring the council's demand for payment of rates and charges amounting to $33,000.
It has found the council incorrectly included some court costs in the amount owed.
But it will allow the council to recalculate the amount and then resume the legal process against Ms Bright, which the council says it will do in the near future.
The council says the ruling does not change the fact she has not paid rates for seven years, and owes thousands.
It has already been given court approval to conduct a forced sale of her Kingsland home to recover the debt.
The one-time mayoral candidate and self-styled anti-corruption campaigner has said she would refuse to pay rates until the council reveals how it spends the revenue.
