Otara murder accused pleads not guilty

A man charged with a murder at a 21st birthday party pleaded not guilty when he appeared in the High Court in Auckland this morning.

The body of Chevy Davis was found in Fisher Crescent, Otara, on 21 December after what the police said was a fight over music.

Justice Lang set a trial date in November for the accused Robert Timothy Rapana, and also removed a suppression order that previously prevented the media from reporting that Mr Rapana has been granted bail.

He has been on bail in an area outside of Auckland, but the specific area remained suppressed.

Mr Rapana was also charged with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

That charge related to an assault on Rio Davis, who was thought to be Chevy Davis's cousin.
