Advanced voting record broken again

7:46 pm on 16 September 2017

Nearly twice the number of people have voted early so far this election compared to 2014, with 300,000 people having already cast their ballot.

Early voting opened on Monday, and the number of votes has risen incrementally each day since then.

The Electoral Commission's figures show that yesterday nearly 80,000 votes were cast, 74,097 were placed the day before and 66,522 the day before that.

At the same time in 2014 just under 180,000 people had voted.
