Charter school bill drawn from Parliament ballot

4:36 pm on 11 May 2017

A Labour MP's bill banning charter schools from being run to make a profit is to go before Parliament.

The private member's bill, from Labour's David Clark, was drawn out the ballot today to be considered by MPs.

The legislation says schools should be run in the interests of children, not private companies creaming off taxpayer funding.

Labour MP Sue Moroney also had a bill pulled from the ballot, seeking to reinstate rights to rest and meal breaks at work.

Also picked was a bill from National MP Parmjeet Parmar, requiring newborn babies to be enrolled with a GP before six weeks of age.
