New port infrastructure won't happen quickly company says

Ports of Auckland says expanding its harbour operations and building a multi-storey carpark on the waterfront will not happen any time soon.

The council-owned company has revealed its proposals for port infrastructure as part of its submission to the Auckland Council plan.

Those plans, which include expanding its harbour operations by 18 hectares, have been criticised by a city business group concerned about the aesthetic look of the waterfront.

But general manager of infrastructure Ben Chrystall says there will be no progress on these projects in the near future since they will require consents and those take a long time to obtain.
