Seven-time Tour de France cycle champion Lance Armstrong has been forced to withdraw from the Blue Lake Multisport Festival in Rotorua in January.
Messages posted on his Twitter account say Armstrong is struggling to deal with continuing knee problems.
Armstrong will return to the United States immediately after competing in the Tour Down Under in Australia.
