Police have made another arrest in relation to the murder of American PhD student Kyle Whorrall.

The 33-year-old man was attacked at a bus stop in Meadowbank on 19 April and later died in hospital.

Police say they have arrested a 17-year-old male from Glenn Innes who has been charged with murder and aggravated robbery.

Detective Inspector Glenn Baldwin said he was the second teenager to be charged with murder in the case and he would appear in the Auckland Youth Court on Thursday.

"We have advised Kyle's family in California of this significant development, and we continue to remain in contact with them as our investigation progresses," Baldwin said in a statement.

Earlier in April, a 16-year-old was charged with murder and aggravated robbery.

A 32-year-old North Shore woman was also charged with being an accessory after the fact to murder.

Both face trial in August next year.
