In a statement, the ministry said three previously reported cases have now recovered and the total number of active cases in New Zealand is now 26. There have been 2278 cases in total.

The new imported case arrived from United Arab Emirates on 24 April.

The ministry also said two cases reported yesterday as being under investigation have now been confirmed as historical cases.

"These cases are the person who arrived on 3 May from India via USA and the person who arrived on 4 May from India."

Flights from New South Wales to New Zealand are paused for 48 hours because of a community outbreak in Sydney. Director-General of Health Ashley Bloomfield said the risk posed to New Zealand by the outbreak was low but there were "a few unknowns"

The Ministry said today that New Zealand officials remained in contact with their Australian counterparts and said its public health assessment was that the risk remained low.

A further update on the situation in Sydney will be made by the ministry later today.
