Covid-19 update: One new case in managed isolation, three new historical cases

There is one new case of Covid-19 in managed isolation facilities and three potential historical cases, with no new cases in the community.

In a statement, the Ministry of Health said there were 28 active cases and the total number of confirmed cases is now 2277.

Today's new imported case came from Nepal, while the three cases now being investigated as historical came from the USA, India and Pakistan.

Historical cases are not considered to be infectious. There have been 53 historical cases since the start of the year, out of a total of 461 cases.

There were three new imported cases of Covid-19 and three historical cases reported in New Zealand's managed isolation facilities yesterday, with no new cases in the community.

The Health Ministry also said today that officials were in contact with their Australian counterparts after a positive case of Covid-19 was reported in the community in Sydney yesterday.

"At this stage, our public health assessment is that the risk remains low."

A further update on the situation in Sydney should be available later today, it said.

Director-General of Health Dr Ashley Bloomfield is hosting a Facebook Live session at 4.30pm today to answer questions from the public on the vaccine rollout.
