The incident happened at West Quay on Sunday 28 February.

A stray bullet from a reported shoot-out injured a staff member at the Thirsty Whale bar early on Sunday morning.

A neighbouring restaurant and bar, The Gintrap, was closed at the time but fragments of a bullet flew through a window, hitting a wall.

A 27-year-old man appeared in the Napier District Court yesterday charged with two counts of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and unlawful possession of a firearm.

He is facing a further charge of aggravated robbery for an unrelated incident, together with the second man who was arrested yesterday.

They have both been remanded in custody to reappear in Napier District Court on 24 March 2021.

Eastern District field crime manager Brenton Greville said the investigation into the West Quay incident was ongoing and further charges were likely.

"We are not seeking anyone else in relation to this incident," he said.
