MetService said temperatures should be about normal for this time of year.

It's expecting the North Island to be mostly fine, with occasional showers in Northland.

In the south, the sun will be out at the top, with cloudy periods possible, as well as a shower in Buller.

Forecaster Andy Best said the only serious blip will be heavy rain in eastern areas of Otago.

He said the rest of the week will be a mixed bag for both islands.
