Lake Taupō deaths - two people named

The two people who were found dead near Mere Road in Lake Taupō last Friday have been named.

They were Trevor Malcolm Wiringi, 50, and Helen Dorothy Smith, 49, from Rotorua.

Police were alerted after the bodies were discovered by a member of the public.

A day after the two bodies were found police announced their deaths were not considered suspicious.

A rāhui was placed at Taharepa Baths on the Lake Taupō waterfront by Ngāti Tūwharetoa following the deaths. It was lifted on Monday.

The deaths have been referred to the Coroner.
