In a statement, the Ministry of Health said the girl was a household contact of a confirmed case and had been in isolation since 30 August.

Her case is epidemiologically linked the Botany sub-cluster, which has been genomically linked to the Auckland cluster.

The case of the healthcare worker from the Auckland quarantine facility reported yesterday has been linked to the Auckland cluster, via three people who have been in the quarantine facility.

The ministry said this reinforced exposure at the Jet Park facility being the most likely route of transmission, however the Public Health Unit is continuing to investigate how the infection occurred.

The healthcare worker has five household contacts, and all have returned a negative test result. Nine staff from the quarantine facility have been identified as close contacts and all have returned a negative Covid-19 result. All will remain in self-isolation for 14-days and be retested twice.

Staff areas in the facility have been deep cleaned.

The update on the number of cases comes as Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern announces Cabinet's decision on whether to shift alert levels.

There are 53 people linked to the community cluster who remain in the Auckland quarantine facility, which includes 29 people who have tested positive for Covid and their household contacts.

Since 11 August the contact tracing team has identified 3708 close contacts of cases, of which 3697 have been contacted and are self-isolating, and efforts continue to trace the rest.

There are three people in hospital with Covid-19; one in isolation on a ward in Auckland City Hospital and two in ICU at North Shore and Waikato hospitals.

With today's new case and two additional recovered cases, the total number of active cases in New Zealand is 96, of which 57 are community cases. The total number of confirmed cases of Covid-19 is 1447.

On Sunday, laboratories processed 3573 tests, bringing the total number of tests completed to date to 868,042.

There was no media conference by health officials today.

Yesterday, two new cases were reported, one a health worker at the Jet Park quarantine facility in Auckland and the other as a returnee to New Zealand in managed isolation.

It also emerged that a person who later tested positive for Covid-19 visited an Auckland gym while infectious. Auckland Regional Public Health Service is asking people who attended the same classes to get tested.
