As it happened: Covid-19 updates from NZ and around the world

4:56 pm on 24 April 2020

As Covid-19 spreads around the world, it can be daunting keeping up with the information. For RNZ, our responsibility is to give you verified, up to the minute, trustworthy information to help you make decisions about your lives and your health. We'll also be asking questions of officials and decision makers about how they're responding to the virus. Our aim is to keep you informed.

Police are urging the public not to relax alert level four restrictions over the Anzac weekend.

The country will move to Level Three at 11.59pm on Monday, but police say they will continue to enforce the current restrictions until then.

"We will remain highly visible in our communities and on our roads over Anzac weekend, including checkpoints at holiday hot spots to minimise non-essential travel."

Motorists undertaking essential travel are being asked to drive to the conditions, within the speed limit and to wear a seatbelt.

"Now is not the time for complacency."
