As it happened: Covid-19 updates from NZ and around the world

6:31 pm on 13 April 2020

As Covid-19 spreads around the world, it can be daunting keeping up with the information. For RNZ, our responsibility is to give you verified, up to the minute, trustworthy information to help you make decisions about your lives and your health. We'll also be asking questions of officials and decision makers about how they're responding to the virus. Our aim is to keep you informed.

Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern says New Zealand's battle with Covid-19 is far from over, despite the number of new cases continuing to remain small.

During a media conference this afternoon, Ardern reiterated that the decision to move between alert levels will not be made until 20 April.

However she said if and when New Zealand does move to alert level 3 it will have significant restrictions also.

"We should consider it a waiting room, a place we move to which allows a bit more activity to occur but not so much that we risk losing all the gains we have made."

"This is a place we go while we check that we have genuinely got things under control and that we are on track to stamp out the virus, that then allows us to make decisions around whether we are ready to move to level 2."

Ardern said the government will be setting out details for each of the alert levels this week.
