Firefighters were called to the blaze near Houhora shortly after midday.
A Fire and Emergency spokesperson said the blaze was covering about two hectares of scrubland.
Three helicopters joined crews on the ground, with two more on standby.
The fire is now under control but crews remain at the scene.
