The Transport Agency closed the bridge on Saturday after heavy rain in South Canterbury caused the Rangitata River to spill across the highway.
The agency said the floodwaters are now under control.
A temporary speed limit is in place, and a small amount of water remains at the intersection of State Highway 1 and State Highway 79 at Orari.
