A 5.2 magnitude earthquake has rocked the Bay of Plenty and East Coast regions this afternoon.

Centred 20km north-west of Matawai, the quake was 43km deep, creating moderate shaking across eastern parts of the North Island.
According to Geonet, 2500 people say they felt the quake.
