Men wounded in Kawhia shooting charged with aggravated burglary

Three of the men who were injured in a shooting incident near Kawhia that left one other man dead have been charged with aggravated robbery.

Following a shooting in rural Waikato yesterday, a man is due in court and three others have been charged with aggravated burglary.

Police said a 37-year-old local man is due to appear in Hamilton District Court today charged with possession of a firearm and possession of methamphetamine.

Three other men, aged 28, 23 and 20, are recovering in Waikato Hospital.

Detective Inspector Graham Pitkethley said they have also been arrested and charged with aggravated burglary.

One person died of their wounds yesterday, while three others were airlifted to hospital with moderate injuries.

The deceased man has not yet been formally identified and a forensic post-mortem is currently underway.

Police are conducting scene examinations at several locations in the Kawhia area.

No one else is sought in relation to this incident and police said there was no risk to the community.
