A total ban on the use of sprinklers, irrigation systems and unattended hoses is now in place for Coromandel Town, the Thames-Coromandel District Council says. Use of hand-held hoses is restricted.

Whitianga remains on a sprinkler ban and Thames still has a total watering ban in place.

This includes watering lawns and gardens; washing cars, houses and decks; filling paddling pools and playing under sprinklers.

All other parts of the Coromandel are on a 'conserve water' restriction, which the council says means residents and holidaymakers need to use water carefully.
