Police have found a body while searching for a missing 36-year-old man in the Waikato River in Hamilton.

The man ran off eight days ago while the serious assault of a 26-year-old woman was being investigated.
He was tracked to the edge of the river, and was seen in it an hour later, but disappeared before police could reach him.
A formal identification proces is underway.
Police are unable to provide further detail at this stage.
