Auckland Transport says fares for tertiary students will rise by as much as 5.2 percent from next month, with smaller increases for longer journeys.

Adults fares for two-zone trips using the city's electronic travel card will rise by nearly 5 percent or 15 cents, in one of the biggest increases.

Three zone trips are 5 cents cheaper.

Children pay nearly 8 percent more for a two zone trip, or 14 cents extra.

Auckland Transport has put a full schedule of the fare changes online.

An uneven mix of increases and small reductions is due to the agency juggling fares to try to ensure that subsidies for different routes don't exceed 50 percent.
