The 11th-hour of the 11th-day of the 11th-month, is the time the guns fell silent on the Western Front in 1918, signalling the end of the First World War.

The National Commemoration Service is being held in the Hall of Memories at the Pukeahu National War Memorial in Wellington at 11am.

In Auckland, a commemorative service is being held in the First World War Sanctuary at the Auckland War Memorial Museum.

In Hamilton, a service at the Cenotaph at 10.30am is being followed by the unveiling of a bronze statue to mark the sacrifices made by horses during war.

And tonight, the All Blacks will be wearing embroidered poppies on their sleeves in their match against France to mark the day.
