The two vehicles collided on the Te Anau-Milford highway on Tuesday at about 3pm.

Police said yesterday that there were no survivors from the car, which was a rental, but did not say how many people had been inside.

They have now confirmed there were two people in the car, both of whom died, and work was underway to identify them.

Four passengers on the bus were injured, and were treated for moderate injuries.

The investigation into the crash was continuing, police said.
