The Government has approved a $500,000 relief fund for Far North flood victims.

More than 20 houses in and around Kaeo need relocating or lifting, after several floods last year.

However, the cost is not covered by insurance and some families are still camping in the shells of their damaged houses.

Northland MP Shane Jones announced Cabinet approval of $500,000 funding from the Internal Affairs budget on Wednesday.

Ann Knutson whose home and shop in the main street of Kaeo were both flooded, says the Government's decision is welcome news and will make a lot of difference to residents.
