Two 17-year-olds will appear in the Christchurch District Court on Monday on firearms charges after an incident in the centre of the city shortly after midnight on Sunday.
During the incident a shotgun blast was fired from one car at another in the Bealey Avenue area.
The police say the arrested pair were driving a 1989 white Toyota Corona around the city for some time before.
Trevor Cross of the Christchurch police says the incident was a serious one, and officers would like to hear from any witnesses.
Mr Cross says the police would also like to hear from the occupants of a green BMW who were involved in an altercation with the teenagers earlier in the evening.
No-one was hurt in the incident, which isn't thought to be gang related.
