Officers 'angry' with police management

9:55 am on 9 April 2015

The Police Association says officers criticised for their role in an Auckland teen sex ring investigation feel like their bosses have hung them out to dry.

The Independent Police Conduct Authority found the victims of the so called Roastbusters case had been let down by police.

In an anonymous letter to the Police Association newsletter, one of the five officers singled out in the inquiry said they had received no support, nor had senior managers acknowledged the pressures they faced.

Association president Greg O'Connor said the officers knew they did not have enough evidence to prosecute, so they reprioritised cases.

"So that's where they're particularly angry with management who stood up, once the report was released, and essentially washed their hands of them - were quite happy for them to be seen as, somehow, slovenly detectives, when nothing could be further from the truth."
