The Labour Party has retained three of its traditionally safe South Auckland seats of Mangere, Manukau East and Manurewa, but lost Maungakiekie to National's new Samoan candidate.
Peseta Sam Lotu-Iiga took the stronghold of Maungakiekie with 13,363 votes, nearly 1900 votes ahead of Labour's candidate, Council of Trade Unions secretary Carol Beaumont.
Su'a WIlliam Sio took Mangere for Labour, with 11,263 votes and a majority of nearly 6500 over Taito Phillip Field, who was the MP with the biggest majority in the 2005 election.
Mr Sio says his team worked hard to retain the seat, given the tough competition from Mr Field's newly-formed Pacific Party.
Manurewa MP George Hawkins, also held his seat for Labour with 11,833 votes, as did Ross Robertson in Manukau East with 15,122 votes.
