District health boards in Auckland and Northland want an extra $281 million worth of capital investment over the next five years to expand their facilities and services.
Documents issued by the National Party on Monday 3 November show that the four boards have told the Government that they are under critical pressure across several fronts: emergency medicine, general medicine, cardiology, renal and respiratory care.
Counties-Manukau DHB says the extra investment is needed to cope with a rapidly expanding and an aging population.
Chief executive Geraint Martin says the three district health boards in Auckland and the Northland board are asking the Ministry of Health for the extra investment at a meeting of its national capital committee this month.
