Peters says he's 'real' MP for Tauranga

New Zealand First leader Winston Peters says only his party has truly delivered for the people of Tauranga.

Mr Peters launched his campaign on Friday for the seat of Tauranga at next month's election.

With incumbent MP Bob Clarkson stepping down, Mr Peters will stand against National Party candidate Simon Bridges.

Addressing a crowd of about 200 people, Mr Peters insisted he has been the real MP for Tauranga in the last three years.

He accused Mr Clarkson of doing a lot of talking but little else, saying New Zealand First had delivered a new harbour bridge.

The Tauranga seat could be crucial for New Zealand First getting back into Parliament, as the party is polling below 5%.
