Archaeology in Christchurch

From Standing Room Only, 12:16 pm on 4 September 2016

"People often think that archaeology only happens in Egypt, or England, or somewhere with 'really old stuff'. But it happens in New Zealand, and recently it's been happening a lot in Christchurch."

That's from the website of local archeologist Katharine Watson who heads the Underground Overground consultancy.

Katharine tells Lynn Freeman what she and her team have learned about early Christchurch from what they've uncovered from damaged and destroyed buildings, and the land under them.
