As the jet fuel crisis, now in its fifth day, continues to disrupt thousands of air travellers - questions are being asked about the country's resilience in the event of fuel shortages. Energy Consultant Ian Twomey has written two contingency reports for two different governments that looked at major, but rare, events. Kathryn Ryan also speaks with Andrew McNaught from Mobil on behalf of the fuel industry.

It's less than a week since New World announced a vote on whether customers should pay for single-use plastic bags, and already over 120, 000 people have joined in. Customers have three choices to pick from: to keep plastic bags free, or bring in a five or 10 cent charge for each plastic bag they use at the checkout. A person uses a plastic carrier bag on average for only 12 minutes. Kiwis use 1.6 billion single use plastic bags each year. Kathryn Ryan talks to Steve Bayliss the New Zealand Group General Manager of Marketing for Foodstuffs which owns New World as well as Pak N'Save.

The culture and history of Pacific voyaging is set to take centre stage at the forthcoming New Zealand Arts Festival, this February. Starting with a spectacular opening event featuring a mass assembly of waka; on land actors, choirs and kapa haka groups - A Waka Odyssey will go on to foster community participation with the hope of resonating throughout Aotearoa, and beyond. Kathryn Ryan talks to Anna Marbrook and Hoturoa Barclay-Kerr from the Waka Odyssey Creative Team.

The next New Zealand Festival is 23rd February - 18th March 2018.  The full programme for the 2018 Festival will be released on 17th October.
