12.20 Ladi6 and Parks on The Alpha Sessions 

After a 6 year hiatus, Ladi6 and Parks have announced the return of The Alpha Sessions.

The Alpha Sessions are a run of shows where Ladi & Parks transfer their studio set up, to smaller, intimate venues/clubs and work out new songs, improvise, deconstruct and rebuild classics, with the aim to allow the freedom of improvisation and response to audience energy.

The shows are recorded and taken back to the studio to finalise and expand on what will eventuate into the next Ladi6 album.

1.10  Troy Kingi on his new album Black Sea Golden Ladder

Yesterday saw the release of Troy Kingi’s fifth album Black Sea Golden Ladder. It marks the halfway point for the Tai Tokerau singer’s 10/10/10 series. The folk-inspired album sees Troy team up with Delaney Davidson on his most personal record yet.  Black Sea Golden Ladder was written and recorded as part of Troy’s Matairangi Mahi Toi artist residency hosted by the Governor-General and Massey University.

Time for another RNZ Music Live Session!

LEAO and band perform live at Samoa House on Karangahape Road.

LEAO is the musical project of Auckland born Samoan musician David Feauai-Afaese. Their music is influenced by the traditional Samoan-pop staples The Samoan Surfriders, Punialava'a and The Five Stars, with contemporary rock 'n' roll thrown in.

2.40 INTERVIEW: The Chats    

Australian band The Chats are well known for their punk songs about Australian culture. Their first single ‘Smoko’ became a viral hit, and other popular tracks include ‘Bus Money,‘ACDC CD’, ‘Pub Feed’, and ‘Mum Stole My Darts’. 

Instead of punk or garage rock, the band coined the term ‘Shed Rock’ to describe their sound.

Wellington soul singer-songwriter Louis Baker is back with a new EP, Love Levitates produced by Devin Abrams. It’s the first release since his 2019 debut album Open. According to Louis, Love Levitates reflects an older, wiser, and more poetic approach to music-making.
