Simon Morris reviews one of the last films by the late director Roger Michell, as well as two others from directors at different stages in their journey.

 

 

Dog is the debut directing gig for movie star Channing Tatum.  He also takes the lead as a burnt-out ex army man babysitting a neurotic dog to the funeral of her handler.     

 

It snows in Benidorm sees Timothy Spall (Mr Turner) as a repressed ex-banker in search of his missing brother at the well-known Spanish holiday resort.   Directed by Isabel Coixet (The Bookshop).

 

And The Duke is the true story of a man who stole a famous painting of the Duke of Wellington, planning to give the proceeds to charity.  Starring Jim Broadbent (Harry Potter) and Dame Helen Mirren (The Queen), and directed by Roger Michell (Notting Hill).
