AT THE MOVIES #873    OSCARS – THE WRONG SORT OF HIT

Simon Morris looks back on the Academy Awards – after the dust settled what were the results?  He also looks at Oscar-winner Drive my car, and two from last year’s Film Festival, including a New Zealand/Canadian sci-fi feature.

The multi-award winning Drive my car is about a man throwing himself into work after the sudden death of his wife.   He rebuilds his life with the unexpected help of his new driver.

Nowhere special is a tearjerker about a dying father trying to find a suitable new family for his 4 year old son.  Stars James Norton (TV’s Happy Valley), and directed by Uberto Pasolini (The full Monty).

And Night Raiders is a Canadian New Zealand co-production set in the near future.   A totalitarian government kidnaps indigenous children and brainwashes them.  A Cree Nation underground resistance group retaliates.  Co-stars Alex Tarrant (Vegas, Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power).
