AT THE MOVIES #871 RETURN OF THE AWARD SHOWS
Simon Morris welcomes back the Baftas, and looks at three small films whose virtue is mostly their own reward – a minor Brit-com, a documentary about African wine-buffs and a salute to an art-film legend.
Off the rails is a routine tale of middle-aged women attempting to retrieve their youth, with some unexpected cameos. Stars Sally Phillips (Bridget Jones) and Kelly Preston (Jerry Maguire).
Blind ambition is a documentary about four unlikely contestants in the prestigious World Wine Tasting Championships. Just a few years before, Joseph, Tinashe, Pardon and Marlvin had been refugees from Zimbabwe who knew nothing about any sort of wine!
And Bergman Island, sees two married film-makers (Tim Roth and Vicky Krieps) go to stay at the former home of the late Swedish legend Ingmar Bergman. Will they be inspired, or will it destroy their marriage?
