Simon Morris looks back on the chequered past of adaptations of Broadway musicals to the big screen.  He welcomes the latest, and reviews a real life underdog story, and an action-comedy sequel.

 

Percy vs Goliath tells the real-life story of farmer Percy Schmeiser and his battle with the mighty Monsanto Corporation.  Stars Christopher Walken (The deer hunter) and Christina Ricci (The Addams Family).

 

In The Heights is the Broadway musical that launched the career of writer/composer/star Lin-Manuel Miranda (Hamilton).  It’s been adapted into a movie by director Jon M Chu (Crazy Rich Asians).

 

And the sequel to the popular Hitman’s Bodyguard is called The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard – starring once again Ryan Reynolds, Samuel L Jackson and Salma Hayek.
