There's been a warning from scientists working in the field of genetic technologies, about its use in conservation. 

They're calling for more controllable tools to avoid the accidental spread of self-propagating gene drive systems - an important issue as New Zealand considers using this kind of technology to eliminate predators.

University of Otago's Professor Neil Gemmell, one of the authors of the article, explains his concern.

Support has been flooding in for a Dunedin school principal who has highlighted an ongoing problem of parents not taking responsibility for their children, instead expecting the teachers to do that for them.

King's High School rector Dan Reddiex made the comments during his speech to the senior prize giving.

He said that the lines of demarcation between parental and school responsibility and accountability had been "completely obliterated".

He also added that usually when children were misbehaving or caught out - the first question is about which school they go to.

Graeme started learning to play violin at the age of seven and gets his folk influences from his family, who played together in  a family band.

He was signed by Nettwerk music last year and today he plays songs from his album News From Nowhere.
