Aucklander, Graeme Macdonald, has a bit of an addiction. His passion is chasing tornadoes across the American Midwest. He's just completed another storm chasing trip, and at the moment, he's in Northern Arizona around Page enroute to Monument Valley. He says this trip was one of the best he's had.

Scientists have long speculated about the existence of plasma tubes in the Earth's atmosphere. And now, a 23-year-old student has proved their existence. Cleo Loi is from the ARC Centre of Excellence for All-sky Astrophysics and School of Physics at the University of Sydney. She has used radio telescopes to locate plasma tubes that interfere with astronomical observations and which could affect some civilian and military navigation systems.
