The society bought the decaying wooded ship in 1967 for a shilling to make sure the vessel that had faithfully served as troop ship in the Crimean War and brought settlers to New Zealand in the 1800's, would not end up on the scrap heap. Today the Edwin Fox Society is being honored with a rare and prestigious maritime heritage honor, The World Ship Trust Award. Karen McLeod is the Edwin Fox visitor Centre manager.
