That was in 1979.
Since then, they've been to 52 countries, 370 ports and now they're returned to Nelson for the second time.
The next time they set sail, it will be for the long journey back to Canada and the trip will finally be at an end.

2:20  New Zealand Society Series - 'For the love of walking' - Part 1 Walking for Protest - Lisa Thompson
Kiwis love to walk. Maybe that's why our national symbol is a flightless bird.
Every day and every year tens of thousands of New Zealanders pull on their shoes and step out the front door.
Some do it for fun, some do it to win and as the first part of this four part New Zealand Society considers, some people do it to make a point.
Spoken features producer Lisa Thompson speaks to historian and Waitangi Tribunal member Aroha Harris about the significance of marches as gestures of protest.
