The red carpet is out and the stars of Predicament, a crime comedy shot in South Taranaki, will be in Hawera for the New Zealand Premiere. Predicament is based on a book written by acclaimed author and, Hawera local, Ronald Hugh Morrieson.

For more than 15 years, the MV Stella sailed New Zealand's rugged coastline bringing supplies, and mail and a much welcome distraction to families manning the Lighthouses dotted around the country. The steamer was built by the government in 1973 specifically to service lighthouses. During the 1980s the last of the lighthouses were automated and lighthouse keepers and their families moved on. The Stella eventually lost her job too and ended up in disrepair in a shipping yard. About 4 years ago, Grant Clothier bought the Stella, and has spent the last few years restoring her to new glory.

3:33 Feature Story

In the heart of the Stratford District in Taranaki lies the small town of Whangamomona. When revised district boundaries tried to take Whangamomona out of Taranaki and put it instead in the Manawatu-Whanganui region, the locals said declared themselves an independent republic in protest, elected a series of presidents, (only some of whom have been human), and got on with doing things their way. Which is not too hard to do when you're a wee way off the beaten track. Justin Gregory takes the road less traveled.
