Another person has died from Covid-19 in French Polynesia as case numbers have now topped 15,000.

More than 5,000 cases were recorded in the past month alone.

In the 24 hours to Saturday, 210 new cases were recorded.

The pandemic has so far claimed 79 lives.

There are 81 people in hospital with 25 of them in intensive care.

All but 62 of the 15,107 cases were detected after the borders were reopened in July and mandatory quarantine requirements were abolished in an effort to boost tourism and reignite the economy.
