The prosecution in French Polynesia has asked for jail sentences to be upheld for those appealing their convictions over the 2007 Air Moorea crash.

Twenty people died when the Air Moorea Twin Otter fell into the sea shortly after taking off for Tahiti.

The court of appeal has been retrying former airline management staff and former staff of the government's air safety unit.

The prosecution wants the sentences of up to three years imprisonment for involuntary homicide to be upheld while the defence has asked for their acquittal.

A verdict is not expected for months.

Last year, French Polynesia's court of appeal ruled that $US3.3 million had to be paid in compensation to the families of the victims.
