Niue's Constitution Day, Aho Pulefakamotu, is being marked today which is also the end of Niue Language Week.

Niue-born Wellington-based doctor Alvin Mitikulena said Aho Pulefakamotu was the highlight week-long celebrations.

"That marks the day when Niue became a self-governing nation in 1974," Dr Mitikulena said.

"It's when we showcase a lot of our cultural activities, our dancing. We feast, we gather as a community. So Saturday will be the highlight for me for the week."
