Fiji's prime minister Frank Bainimarama has accepted the resignation of assistant minister Lorna Eden effective from Friday the 7th of September.

Lorna Eden has held multiple assistant minister portfolios including most recently for environment and housing.

In a statement from the office of the prime minister an investigation into Mainland Resorts Ltd, which Mrs Eden co-owns with her husband Tim, is cited as the reason for her resignation.

Local media report this is in relation to the digging of channels and cutting of mangroves at her Bakabaka Island property without any Environmental Impact Assessment being carried out.

According to the government statement Lorna Eden will continue to serve as a member of parliament.
