The Papua New Guinea Hunters are on the brink of the Intrust Super Cup rugby league playoffs after crushing Wynnum Manly Seagulls 40-16 in their final home match of the regular season.

The home side scored four tries in each half at the National Football Stadium in Port Moresby to extend their winning streak to six games.

The Hunters are level on 28 points with fourth-placed Easts Tigers and fifth-placed Northern Pride but remain in the sixth and final playoff position because of an inferior points differential.

The defending Queensland Cup champions are two points clear of the Ipswich Jets, who thrashed Tweed Heads Seagulls 52-16 to keep their playoff hopes afloat.

The Hunters can secure a finals berth with a win or draw away to the Central Queensland Capras on Saturday in their final round robin match, while a loss would leave them sweating on the results Ipswich versus Norths Devils and Northern Pride against Tweed Heads.
